In about 2006 I was living in Denton, TX and Jason happened to be playing a SXSW showcase at I want to say Mercury Lounge. A friend and I decided to drive down to Austin pretty spur of the moment day of the show and just see if we could get in by paying at the door. Well, we arrived to a huge line and prospects were not good if you didn't have a wrist band or badge. We stood in line a bit and then I decided I would go to the front and see what are chances were. When I returned to my friend in line to give them the bad news that we had no shot not getting in I was pretty surprised and shocked to see that standing in my spot in line was Jason chatting with my friend (we had gone to a bunch of his shows over the years and had a bit of a rapport and he remembered us.) We chatted in line for a while and he bummed a cigarette. We told him of course about our predicament and he let us know he had no guest spots and no way to get us in. After awhile we said good bye and got in the car and drove home. Didn't get to see the show but still a great memory. He was always so warm and welcoming and gracious.
