“Sing it brother, one more time”
Today especially we celebrate Jason's extraordinary musical legacy, spending some time to reflect on and enjoy the beautiful collection of songs he left behind.
As always, we would also like to highlight two organizations that offered invaluable support to Jason in both the US and UK: Musicares and Samaritans. For anyone looking for assistance, wanting to make donations, or learn more, you can find links to these important organizations below:
musicares.org // samaritans.org
We'd love to hear about your live experiences, the albums you'll be playing, and any other ways you'll be joining us in honoring Jason's memory today.
If there’s anything you’d like to share in memory, we encourage you to do so below this post - comments are open.
With love,
S&D x
In about 2006 I was living in Denton, TX and Jason happened to be playing a SXSW showcase at I want to say Mercury Lounge. A friend and I decided to drive down to Austin pretty spur of the moment day of the show and just see if we could get in by paying at the door. Well, we arrived to a huge line and prospects were not good if you didn't have a wrist band or badge. We stood in line a bit and then I decided I would go to the front and see what are chances were. When I returned to my friend in line to give them the bad news that we had no shot not getting in I was pretty surprised and shocked to see that standing in my spot in line was Jason chatting with my friend (we had gone to a bunch of his shows over the years and had a bit of a rapport and he remembered us.) We chatted in line for a while and he bummed a cigarette. We told him of course about our predicament and he let us know he had no guest spots and no way to get us in. After awhile we said good bye and got in the car and drove home. Didn't get to see the show but still a great memory. He was always so warm and welcoming and gracious.
