Hey everyone,
Hope all of you are doing well.
We’re really excited to be able to share some first news of a release that has been in the works for a little while now, and one that has been asked about a great deal over the years by fans of Jason’s music.
A long out-of-print release, 8th August 2025 will see a vinyl reissue for Songs: Ohia’s 1998 full-length, Impala, via Secretly Canadian. This is the first time a vinyl edition of the album has been available since the initial release run in 1998, and this time also includes the addition of a remastered demo of ‘Tess’ originally captured during the original recording sessions.
One small thing for S&D subscribers to note here: this time around, there is not a window of exclusivity around the pre-order as such, as there are going to be slightly more of these available than a couple of the previous releases we’ve shared on here.
That being said, if you’re interested in getting a copy, where possible we’d still advise acting sooner rather than later just to be safe on the safe

Here’s some more information on the release via SC:
“Lorain, Ohio; it's a tough place to grow up. You either escape or you don't. Given the industry that exists (or existed) there — the steel mill, Ford plant, and shipyard — the mix of people is like none other. One thing is for sure though, it's blue collar through and through. What's this have to do with a new release from Songs: Ohia? Well, Jason — main Songs man, like myself, grew up in this god-forsaken hole of a city and as much as you can leave the city, it never leaves you.
Impala offers further testament to the songwriting talents of Jason Molina. The tracks contained herein offer a glimpse into the soul of a man burdened with trying to exorcise the demons of life, loss, and subsistence. This isn't something one can fake. It comes from growing up with the knowledge that the factories your parents worked in are not an option for you and that your only real option is to try and get out (easier said than done).
Pared down to only Jason and Geof Comings for this release, the tracks on Impala are simultaneously the sparsest and most textured yet to be released by the band. Consider this to be the one of the most honest and strongest releases from Songs: Ohia. Our suggestion: Head to the local Knights of Columbus, grab a seat at the bar, order a Genesee, and drink away your paycheck to this one. That's what they're doing in Lorain.”

All the best,
S&D x
Fantastic news!! I've been waiting for this for years. Thank you to everyone involved with getting this together. It's great that all of Jason's major releases will be accessible to fans new and old.
Since this is all in house within the Secretly group: Is there any way for S&D subs to get the Secretly Society version of the record without joining another subscription?
This is really special. I saw the band as a college freshman in the spring of 1998, maybe the day after this came out (with Oneida). Maybe 20 of us in the crowd at our tiny Vermont school. During the set, Jason offered a free vinyl copy of Impala to the first person who could name the real first name of Geezer Butler from Black Sabbath. None of us knew, so he made it easier and asked Ozzy’s real first name. Somehow I knew it was John, and I won the record. After the set, I drove 30 min round trip to the nearest ATM so I could buy the S/T, Impala, and Hecla CDs. A truly memorable night.
