Hey everyone,
Hope you’re all doing okay!
A little while since we shared one of these as there will be the odd drought where we don’t have too much to share with you… But! Today we’ve dug up some lovely words from comedian James Acaster on MECo, the anniversary of La Chapelle and the completion of the first Archive Tape to be released through Static & Distance.

We are currently hard at work preparing the next lot of content which will focus on ‘Josephine’ and Magnolia Electric Co. (the band) - we’re really excited to share with you what we’re working on.
As ever, if there is something you want to share here you can reply to this email or get us at Molina@secretlycanadian.com
All the best,
S&D

James Acaster - Baker’s Dozen - The Quietus
Something from February we’ve just found, and almost certainly more of interest for those of you in the UK… British comedian James Acaster recently discussed his favourite albums with The Quietus, speaking at length and quite beautifully about Magnolia Electric Co. and other parts of Jason’s catalogue as well as a riff about the owl and dead pets…
Direct link to his MECo selection here - though its all worth a read…

Live at La Chapelle
This week marked the 17th anniversary of the one-off solo show in Toulouse, France, that would eventually be released as ‘Jason Molina: Live at La Chapelle’
For the full story of that evening, as told by promoters Gérald Guibaud, Gilles Deles & Thomas Boudineau, head here 🖤

The Lamb & Flag- Jam001
Those of you with a full subscription will be well aware of these by now but last week saw the final track from the first of the archive tapes we’ll be sharing through Static & Distance.
These are a tape of unreleased Songs: Ohia recordings & feature Jason alone with his guitar recorded between 1999-2000
One of around 10 tapes of demos, Jam001 is from a collection called ‘The Lamb And Flag’. Some of the subsequent tapes feature demos for songs that would later appear on Ghost Tropic…
This tape may well appear somewhere more permanent in the future, but for now, you can hear it on S&D.
