“Songs: Ohia presently stranded in badass blizzard”
Hey everyone,
Hope you’re all doing well and keeping warm!
This is our last general update of the year - we’ve got one really cool thing for you next week before we take a little break over the holidays. Still, there’s lots to dig into below - an artist we are huge fans of name-checking Jason as an influence in a recent interview, a new cover of ‘Lioness’, an ‘Untitled’ track appearing on vinyl for the first time and some unseen 25 year old footage. Tons to dig into today then…
Hope you all enjoy and see you next week for something special.
All the best,
S&D

“even though Jason Molina I think is one of the great songwriters, that particular record just felt really accessible . . .that was the real catalyst for me to go home and try to figure out how to write songs.”
Samantha Crain recently discussed discovering The Lioness and Jason’s influence on her music in an interview with Guitar Girl Mag.

SC25 Lioness
Secretly Canadian have shared their final SC25 25th anniversary cover which features Lightning Dust and BISON covering S:O’s ‘Lioness’ 💜
Amber of Lightning Dust says, "...after getting started I was just truly honoured for the gift of singing such a beautifully pleading, unguarded, and heart wrenching song. Jason Molina was one in a million and will be forever missed. I hope our cover shines even more light on his original version."

Crab Orchard, November 1997.
The always excellent Songs: Ohia Video Archive recently shared a new video shot 25 years ago in Secretly Canadian’s first HQ in Bloomington.
Tom Heath:
“The raw footage for this video was recorded on Saturday November 29th, 1997 in the basement of Secretly Canadian HQ1 in Bloomington, Indiana - big thanks to Chris Swanson for his assistance. The original video was created for a school project and wasn't good enough to share so I've kept it hidden all of these years. This new version was created to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the date the footage was recorded. I'm certainly not a professional video director/editor but I wanted to share this simple tribute to one of my favorite S:O tracks.”
Thanks for sharing this update! I was able to pre-order the vinyl compilation at Norman Records, if anyone else is looking for it.
